Alternative Medicine for Pets/canine renal failure

QuestionHi Marie,
I "spoke" with you about 6 months ago, when my dog oreo was in liver failure, due to the vet's mistakes. Unfortunately, though I did everything and anything I could, it was not enough!!
Now, her sister, sassi, has the beginning of a problem, and I was wondering if you had any ideas that could help her...
i noticed my dog drinking more water recently. i took her to the vet and blood work revealed her bun, at 33.2 and her creatine at 2.2. with a urine analysis, he diagnosed her with renal failure, but he said it was in its early stages. two weeks later results were bun 28 and creatine 1.8 [this was done at their office, and they showed the high as 27 and 1.8 respectively.
all of her other blood work was perfectly normal.
the vet told me to take her off raw food [which she has consumed her entire life...meat and veges] and to now cook it. his only advice, thus, was to change her diet, which i understand is the treatment of choice. however, i have always fed her healthy, and as a matter of fact, he acknowledges that she is probably in such good health because of her raw food diet.
the only thing i am doing differently [besides cooking her food now] is giving her omega 3s/essential fatty acids.
do you have any ideas as to what i could do to help her. she shows no symptoms at all, and ostensibly, she feels fine. i understand this is progressive, and i wanted to know if there was anything i could do to forestall what they say is the inevitable.
thank you very much for any help you may be able to give me.
Answer
Yes, I remember your post about Oreo... So sorry !
Yes, here are some recipes and supplements that may help your other doggie kid:
Kidney and hepatic recipe for dogs:
** here is a recipe to try - also, please e-mail me your current recipe so I can look at it:
The Key is :
***Frequent feedings of high quality simple carbohydrates such as white rice and potatos.
~~~normal amounts of protein should be fed as protein is needed by the liver during repair. Soy protein and milk proteins are helpful..
Hamburger, Drained ( or another meat is fine)
~No liver or organ meats...
Boiled eggs without the yokes..
Unprocessed BROWN Rice.. or White rice...
mixed daily with some cottage cheese or "soy" plain yogurt.
YOU don't have to use soy but it is good ...
Also, make sure you add some x-tra water to each dish - Water will help the kidney to function.
( This recipe is a good start - You can also do ground chicken or lamb rather than the hamburger)
SUPPLEMENT:
Also, 1/2 to 1 full NuVET wafer per day for your dog
SUPPLEMENTS - Milk Thistle / for the liver:
Milk thistle is a must:
Not taking Milk Thistle?
Milk thistle is the most well known herb recommended for treating liver disease. Its silymarin content has been shown effective in treating liver disease.
Here is a Liver Cleanse Formual - Just 1 per day ( small dog dosage),
a larger dog could have 3 -4 per day / depends on weight.
