I live with two girls that have a long haired chihuahua and a mutt, both of wich sit around all day and chew on themselkves and have hair missing on their backs and butts, they refuse to take their animals to the vet, what can I do? What can I tell them? Do they have something my dog can catch. He is very healthy and gets regular vet visits.

Hello Rachel - yes, the dogs could have the mange.  ( it is a form of mite)
Also, they do need to get some immunizations for the 2 dogs.  
Tell them to have the dogs checked for mange.  VERY contagious - there are different forms of the and it can be treated with shampoos and antibiotics.
