Question
My 1 1/2 yer old tiny Chi has developed a wheezing and inability to breath properly especially when she runs or gets excited. She gags and does so most often after eating ut all the time too.
I have had 4 vets see her 2 at the U of Mo. vet Clinic. and its $700 later. No answer. They dont know

After a battery of tests...An Echo shows a heart condition a valve open that was used before birth hasnt closed but is not too bad yet.NOt it.
Trachea is fine was xrayed.NO colapse they see.
Shes been on 2 kinds of antibiotics in case its bronial germ... (didnt do anything),steriods which made her worse and body swell,
Shes was off everything but antibiotics and was just ok and had some worse days.Lungs are clear.
I put her back on Lasix  a day ago and shes better.
Lasix does seem to clear up some of the congestion and she breaths better and the swelling went down all the way.
Any ideas and
Can I just leave her on lasix indefinitley?

Shes not totally ok  but better using it.
She can bark fine and acts normal eats well,

Seems like its on intake of breath.Nothing comes up  when she gags but with Lasix is much better there too.

Hi - Oh, poor little chi doggie...
The lasix helps because it reduces the swelling around the heart - It is fluids that build up because of the faulty valve.  It leads to CHF - congestive heart - the cough sounds like Pneumonia but it is the heart and the fluids around the sac.  The fluids back up because of the valve. The only way to give her relief is Lasix.  There is no other way to control the fulids for this little one.
I wish that I could give you more choices but there are none.

*good luck and keep her on the lasix..
