QUESTION: I have a sweet little boy English bulldog. He is a year old and weighs about 50 lbs.  I have had problems with his diet from the day I got him . We tried him on many different foods including EVO and he has reacted to them all. The only food he has low reaction to is Science Diet ZD. But I do worry that this isnt a good quality food for him.  I havent put him on the suppelements you sell but I would like to if it will cut down his odor shedding and yeast problems. However I am afraid he might react to the supplement is that possible? Also he has some pretty bad canine acne under his chin I wipe it with acne medication or water and hydrogen peroxide and it does seem to help some but not totaly get rid of it.. should I be washing him with a different type of shampoo or using something different on his chin? Also How often do you reccomend bathing a bulldog?

And lastly my friend has a 2 year old Frenchie that has always had vomiting problems he vomits when he is excited .. he wakes up during the night 3 times a week at least to vomit .. otherwise he seems healthy. He has been to the vet... been xrayed tried different food.. nothing has changed his condition. Any ideas?

Thank you!

ANSWER: Hi - What a cute photo!!! Mackey is a Lover Boy!  I would sure love to help you two and your friend's Frenchie, also.
Ok, Mackey first:

Ok - here is the  Hill's RX Science Diet ingredients Z/D -
Ingredients of Z/D

Brewers Rice, Hydrolyzed Chicken Liver, Hydrolyzed Chicken, Soybean Oil (preserved with BHA, propyl gallate and citric acid), Powdered Cellulose, Calcium Carbonate, Calcium Sulfate, Glyceryl Monostearate, DL-Methionine, Potassium Chloride, Choline Chloride, vitamins (Vitamin E Supplement, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate (source of vitamin C), Niacin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin A Supplement, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid), Taurine, Iodized Salt, Dicalcium Phosphate, minerals (Ferrous Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Copper Sulfate, Manganous Oxide, Calcium Iodate, Sodium Selenite), preserved with Mixed Tocopherols & Citric Acid, Beta-Carotene, Rosemary Extract.

So, if you look at the first main ingredient it is rice.  VERY poor quality of a First ingredient.
As you can see, the Z/D is an average to poor quality food.  ( As you already know)-
I would keep him on the Z/D but add some home cooked meats to each meal or at least one meal per day.  Please cook up some white chicken, lamb, buffalo, or lean ground beef.
Add 1/2 cup of this cooked meat to his meals or meal per day.

NEXT- To balance out his Diet and the ITCHIES and YEAST - NuVET will be a great addition.
1000s and 1000s of Bullies take NuVET supplements each day.
It will re-build the Weak immune system and blast the allergies.  Also, NuVET will help the heal the canine acne on his chin.  I would give this boy 2 per day for 2 weeks and then go to 1 1/2 NuVETS per day.  When you call, tell the girls Marie wants Mackey on more than the average dosage.
NuVET is all natural and very safe for Mackey to take.
Call 1-800-474-7044  Tell the girls about Mackey and your problems ; Let them know you are working with pet Nurse Marie from AllExperts.

Ask them about the auto ship 15% OFF discount program.
Also, ask them about the 60 day money back guarantee.

Last - Please give him some Acidophalus 1 billion CFUs ( 1 ) per day for 3 months.
YOU can find this probiotic at any store that sells human vitamins.
This will balance out the Yeast bacteria overgrowth and Smell.
Very safe and easy on the belly.

For his face - get some unscented baby wipes and place a little bit of Witch Hazel - wipe 1 x per day with this wipe and a dime size amount of Witch Hazel.
No more peroxide... ok

Now for the FRENCHIE-
Vomiting frenchie-
Try some tagament - give 1/2 pill before bed time -
Make sure the Frenchie gets a little snack and the pill.

MOST vets will refer you to this drug:
SEE here Walker Valley Vet's Recommendations :
http://www.walkervalleyvet.com/otc-meds.htm

TAGAMET (Cimetidine)/PEPCID-AC/ZANTAC:
Reduces the amount of stomach acids and can be dispensed to dogs and cats suffering from ulcers, acid reflux or belly ache. Sometimes they are used to prevent ulcers in animals taking other medications. These medications are given once to twice daily. It's best to discuss the exact dosage with your veterinarian.

Also, a raised feeding dish - raised feeding and drinking up to arm pit level.  The dog will take in less air when eating if the area is raised up.

NuVET - helps with digestion - 1/2 a NuVET per day may be a Big PLUS for this Frenchie...
Many dogs like this Frenchie do take 1/2 of a NuVet Wafer per day.

HOPE this helps.

QUESTION: Marie,

Thank you! This all makes a lot of sense to me and I'm excited to try him on a new routhine. If I can just ask you a couple more questions .. as far as the meat is there one that is known to cause less allergy problems than another? And also he has a very flat face and deep wrinkle above his nose. Should I be putting an anti yeast cream in the wrinkle. I clean it daily but it is always moist in there and does get smelly yeast in it.

Again thank you so much!

Alysia

Answer
GREAT!  Well, the Hill's stuff has chicken in the ingredients.... so, he was able to deal with the chicken.  NEXT, I guess you can go with ground lamb....that is the best out of all the choices.
Can't wait for you to start with my suggestions.

About the folds:  the NuVET will sure help.  Also, wipe his folds well with an unscented baby wipe.  Next - every day, place some corn starch onto the palm of your hand and then use a q-tip to pat some corn starch into his folds.  corn starch will keep it dry and keep away any infections.  Yes, just plain old corn starch...
So many low cost ways to help our pets.
