Question
I have an 8.5 month old intact Male, AKC, AM Staff Terrier.
I am feeding him Blue Buffalo Adult Lamb & Rice formula (he has been eating Blue since the day I brought him home at 8 weeks of age), prior to that he was eating Blue Diamond Lamb & Rice puppy food.
He is allergic to chicken, he is also taking Phy-Cox JS twice a day per the vets orders. I had to start feeding him the adult formula at 4 months of age due to him growing so fast (he was the runt and only weighed 6.8 pounds at 8 weeks, at 4 months of age he was 40 pounds), he now weighs almost 80 pounds.
I have him professionally groomed at least once a month and the groomer uses Comfort oatmeal shampoo (he's allergic to every other shampoo she has tried# on him. I also use K9 Advantix once a month.
He is always scratching at his ears and his belly #both sides of his sheath#. He incessantly licks his sheath and balls,#actually when he starts licking it seems like something just bit him#, he has a rash on his belly #both sides of his sheath#, on the end #front bottom# of his sheath and on his scrotum #as well as a couple of moles#. The vet told me to keep the area clean using anti-bacterial wipes.
He also has visible bumps on both sides of his body in his coat, and he also has non visible bumps #they almost feel like scabs# on the top of his head. He frequently has red eyes and the inside of his ears turn red at the same time. He also has extremely rough pads on his feet. He is like candy to Mosquitos so I limit his outdoor time, and I use Baer Botanical Guardian all natural insect repellant #it has no insecticides) on him whenever the mosquitos are out in force.
I am at my wits end trying to figure out what is wrong, and I can't afford Dynovite, I am also trying to keep him on as close to an organic/holistic diet as possible.
I have attached a picture of him taken when he was 4 months old.
The breeder I purchased him from wants to sponsor and show him, but that will not be possible if I can't get his allergies and skin problems under control. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
AnswerI have a few ideas for you and your boy! Great photo, Thanks!
1. Add some Probiotic to his diet /very safe..
Give him 1 of a 1 billion Acidophalus per day - this will help the possible Over-growth of yeast bacteria on his skin and in his ears, too.
VERY safe - you can find this Probiotic at any store that sells Human vitamins.
I would give him 1 per day for 1 month.
2. Add some Vitamin C to his diet / MUST be ESTER C at (1) 500 mg per day - long term...
HELPs with healing and allergies.
3. Add some vitamin E - just one of a 50 IU - this is a very small cat dosage.
give 1 E per day long term..
Helps the skin and coat.
also, for Fleas, you can use some D.E. all natural powder -
see my post her on D.E.
