QuestionQUESTION: When I got home from work tonight, I noticed Memphis' (the Boxer) coat looking like it was stuck up in places near her back legs like she had been scratching. So I tried to rub it down and noticed that there were small lumps. After further examination I noticed small blister looking bumps (not liquid filled) on the very back of her legs. It doesn't appear to be hurting her..I touch them and she doesn't whine or cry or react at all. She just keeps biting at her back area where the bumps are like it itches. I looked it up or the internet and found some pics that look very similar to her bumps. It called it hives and said benadryl can help. I'm just concerned about how little she is and how much to give her. I'm taking her to the vet in the morning I was just looking for some more advice. Thanks.
ANSWER: Hi Jamie, Let me know what the vet says? Sounds like an environmental allergy or reaction to something in the house?
Make sure there are no fleas. Sometimes just one little flea bite can set off the bumps and scratching. We are in South Carolina and we still have fleas, even in the Winter with temps as low as 20 degrees at night.
I have some supplements to suggest: NuVET the Allergy Blaster
NuVET Plus - 1 wafer per day - great for skin, coat, hips, legs, joints - overall one of the best dog and puppy vitamins in the USA.'
NuVET is a Wafer treat: Call in at 1-800-474-7044 and tell them Pet Nurse Marie sent you.

The Benadryl amounts are 1-2 mg per pound every 8-12 hrs.
Example : a 20 pound dog can have 20 to 40 mg of Benadryl as the dosage.
---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------
QUESTION: I called to double check and make sure they were open and I explained what was going on and how she was acting etc, etc, and they said before I even bring her in and have to pay for that visit to try Benadryl..half of an adult dose. They said it was possible that she had a reaction to something outside that she came in contact with even though she is an inside dog. They said if we didn't see any improvement to bring her on in. We got children's Benadryl (12.5mg) 1 teaspoonful (weighs about 20 lbs) twice a day with her meals. By the night of the first day of the meds, the hives were almost completely gone with just small ones remaining. We went ahead and gave her 2 doses today just to be on the safe side and the bumps are completely gone. We are still gonna keep a close eye on her to make sure this has actually fixed whatever was bothering her or if this was just a temporary thing. Thanks you for your help.
We did check for fleas as she just had k9 advantix put on her about 2.5 weeks ago. Is there any brand or kind of flea medicine that you would recommend? Thanks

4. D.E. ( From the EARTH) ( for the pet and the house/ yard)
*** Diatomaceous earth (DE) works, and it’s non-toxic not only to your dogs, but birds and other animals that pass through your back yard.
About D. Earth:
Diatomaceous earth is a naturally occurring substances made up of crushed fossils of freshwater organisms or marine life. Insects like the fleas have a waxy coat which helps to prevent water loss through the body surface. What the diatomaceous earth does is that it slices through the coat of the fleas and as such causing dehydration and eventually causes death of the fleas, larvae and eggs.
DE is inactive in presence of water, it’s more suited for use on dry walks, dry decks, dry patios, dry lawns. Outdoor flea treatment should focus on areas where your pets rest, sleep, and runs, such as doghouse and kennel areas, under decks, along fences and next to the foundation. Use natural grade rather than pool grade diatomacious earth. Natural Grade for pets.........
It is seldom necessary to treat the entire yard or open areas exposed to full sun. Simply sprinkle the Diatomaceous (DE) powder onto these areas.
PLEASE NOTE****
If it rains, you will need to re-apply the D. Earth to your yard.
You can also use D.E. on your pets/ just avoid the face/ eyes...
NON toxic and very safe...( get a salt shaker or powder shaker...)
GARLIC/ In the NuVET - VERY small amounts do help!!
Also, give a NuVET wafer per day to your dogs...NUVET has a trace amount of Garlic in them...PLUS loads of other supplements that Keep the Fleas away...
Fleas hate the taste of a Healthy pet’s blood... They JUMP right off.
If you have D.E powder they may not jump on at all.
CATS can use D.E., too!
As for the cats, you can use D.E for them too...
Just dust them 1 x per day with the D.E. powder.
Make sure you get the PURE and Plain D. Earth.
CATS have a NuVET formula too!!
Cats also can benefit from some NuVET feline powder, too.
Ok, I have given you some very good options - you will need to use One of the top 2 and then a NuVET -
Or you can try the D.Earth and the NuVET.
HOUSE dogs and CATS may be able to get away with the D.Earth powder and one NuVET per day...
KEEP me posted.
This will be so much safer for your pets...
