Alternative Medicine for Pets/dry, itchy skin

Question

my baby Laci
I have a 70lb. pitbull(Laci)she's 1 1/2 yrs.old and in the last 2-3 months her skin has gotten very dry and itchy.  She scratches & bites incessantly at her rearend, tail and hind legs to the point that there is hairloss & scabby spots.  I've recently read alot on the web about commercial dry dog food maybe causing the problem or possibly the winter months with her being in doors with the heat on as a possible cause.  I can't afford allergy testing or multiple vet bills.  Well I can't change the weather so I want to try more holistic methods.  My parents own a beekeeping store & I have access to natural beneficial honeybee products (e.g. bee pollen, honey, royal jelly & propolis) for free.  Humans take these supplements internally & externally with excellent results and I was wondering what you think about feeding some (or all) of them to my Laci for her skin?  Or perhaps you have a homemade dogfood recipe that can help?  Also, do you know of any immediate relief treatment or salve?
Please help me(& Laci)?
Pam

Answer
Oh, Laci is so cute!  Thanks for the Photo:  You may want to have a VET do a skin scrape and look at the cells under a scope.  ( it doesn't cost much for a basic scrape test:)

Here is an article about Royal Jelly for dogs:  GOOD idea:

Because of its slightly sharp, bitter, biting taste, dogs may not care for royal jelly. Blends of royal jelly and honey, which are also popular, may be more to their liking. Try mixing your own by blending 2 ounces (4 tablespoons) organic royal jelly with 6 ounces (¾ cup) of local raw honey. Keep refrigerated. Give your dog ½ to 1 teaspoon of this blend twice per day, morning and night.
This article answers all your questons about the BEE products:
