QuestionQUESTION: Hello Marie,
My Scottish terrier MacDougal now 8yrs 7mths has been special needs since he was a puppy and we have battled many, many things with and for him and would do it again. His latest battle has been for the last two years is having issues with his pads breaking down (cracking, some bleeding, hardening and discoloration)which causes him to limp off and on and prevents him from walking, running and being as active as he would normally be at times. Believe me it's not due to any cleaning issues on my part because I get teased quite a bit that I keep him and his brother too clean. We have tried various things from numerous over the counter, and prescribed medication. Please help if you can.

ANSWER: Hi Jeannie, How about some BAG Balm? You can find this at any TARGET or Walmart store: it may be in the BABY area - diapers and wipes.
Place this on the paw pad 3-4 x per week. Helps to heal and protect the paw pads.
It repells water and snow, too.
NEXT - Make sure you are using a "NO Corn" pet food ---
****If there is corn in the firt 10 ingredients then get rid of it.
One of my favotires is Natural Balance dog food.
Natural balance is great for dog's skin and coat problems.
NEXT - PLEASE take a look at my NuVET Plus page:

QUESTION: Hello Marie,
First thank you for your input and information. We have been using the Bag Balm for a couple of years it provides some relief but it does not prevent from happening. Wanted to know your thoughts on Mushers Secret (from Wal-Mart) it's a paw protectant that I recently purchased I have not used it on him yet because I'm kind of worried it may make his condition worse?
Also can you tell me exactly what food ingredients are not good for dogs especially those with allergy problems, I know you mention corn? We have had them on pretty much everything trying to get the best healthiest choice for them. Currently we have them on dry food by Nutrish (has cornmeal# and Natural Life #no corn)and wet food Natural Life, Authority; also training logs Pet Botanics, and Fresh Select supposedly all natural ingredients.
I will definitely check out all your pages and the other information you have provided. Thank you again soooooo much and I know MacDougal would give you a sloppy kiss for helping him to.
Best regards,
Jeannie
