QuestionI have a mixed terrier/shih tzu who weighs 37 pounds. Recently my vet prescribed 20mg of prednizone because she was constantly chewing on her front paws. She also received something called Douxo a Seborrhea Spot on. My puppy got over the chewing with just the solution. I still have the prednizone. I recently got a new puppy (5 months and 11 pounds). She received all her shots except the rabies. The vet also applied Revolution the day I first brought her in. However, she now religiously scratches under both her armpits and is chewing the base where the tail meets the spine. I have checked for fleas and find none. My question is, can I give her the prednezone to stop the itching? The 20mg was to be cut in half and given to my 37 pound dog once a day for 3 days and then 1/2 a pill every two or 3 days. Can I cut in 4 pieces and give it to her the same way as prescribed for my 37 pound dog? Can I also apply the Douxo solution to try and stop her from itching? We had her fur clipped short.

YOU may want to see a VET for a good exam:
Hi, I don't think you should give steroids to your dog. You would need to see the Vet for a good exam first. It's best to try other natural methods before steroids.
Your new pup may have been bit by some fleas. Glad the Vet did give you flea treatment.
Sounds like Yeast to me? Your vet can tell by looking and smelling the areas in question.
See my post here about NuVET plus and Probiotics for itchy pets.
Hope this helps

If you try the Natural options you should see results in less than 60 days.
Otherwise, please call the Vet for a good exam.
Best wishes
