Alternative Medicine for Pets/Yellow lab / bad intermittent odour

Question
My female Yellow Lab has developed a very strong odour (I cannot place what the smell is 'like', sometimes acrid and other times just foul).  She is 2 1/2 years old, up to date on all shots and is spayed.  At first, I thought it was the result of her running into a swamp ... I gave her a very thorough bath using very gentle (all natural) dog shampoo.  The smell seemed to go away but then returned.  Subsequently, she has 'rolled' in a number of malodorous 'things' (dead fish on the beach, a dead & rotting porcuping);  each time I have given her a thorough bath, checked her skin etc.  The odor remains.  I have attempted to isolate the area from which the odor emanates.  Within the last week, I have witnessed her 'scooting' once and that she is sensitive on the rear haunches near the anus.  Disgusting as it sounds, I attempted to smell around that area to determine if that was where the smell was emanating (thinking it might be the anal glands / require expressing).  I am at a loss ... I will be taking her to the vet, next week, when we are back at home (currently at a cottage) ... but was hoping you might have some ideas or suggestions to help with isolating the source of this acrid / foul odor (and when it is present it is very strong).

Thank you very much

Deanna
