Alternative Medicine for Pets/ACL in 3 year old pitbull

I have a 3 year old staffordshire terrier named Sampson and he was just diagnosed with an ACL.  They recommended someone to do surgery to repair his stretched/torn liagament and I was curious to know if there is anything I can do besides surgery.  I will do it if need be but he is very active and I'm afraid it be a long healing process and not sure if surgery is really necessary.  I have read some conflicting things about it.  I had a horse that severed all the ligaments in his leg and he healed on his on with the ligaments scar tissue fusing them back together.  Just looking at my options and appreciate any insight and feedback.
Thank you,

Hello Veronica,

This is a tough one. I had a client whose dogs Cruciate healed by putting the dog on a straight raw diet and restricting all exercise, but that was an old dog who wasn't active. Your problem is that you will have to stop his activity no matter what you choose because if you don't, he could easily make the situation worse.

I would recommend setting up a phone consultation with Dr Gerald Wessner, a wonderful holistic vet. His number is 352-245-2025. If anyone can help you with a natural approach, it is him, and he is fair with his charges. He has a sizable horse practice as well and spends a lot of time out of the office, so leave a message if you get the answering machine.

Hope this helps.
