My dog had an ear infection and my vet told me that you can use a shot of white vinegar and a shot of warm water, take a tip and dip it in the mixture and let it run into the dogs ears.  He told me that some dogs get a certain infection that only white vinegar cures.   It works! An owner of two small chihuahuas.
