Question
My mother has been diagnosed with Dementia. She is 86. I purchased the family home so she would feel more at ease in her own surroundings. The problem I'm having now is that she cannot be left alone and I'm trying to hold down a job and still try to take care of her.I have a friend who comes in and stays with her during the day during the week. My question is this, is there some kind of funding out there that I can get so that I could stay home with her?

Answer
Hello Barb,

Thank you for writing.  It is very admirable that you are willing to take care of your mother, and as your finidng out, it is a full-time "job" in itself!

Other than the Federal Family Medical Leave Act that allows you to stay home with your mother for 6 weeks (paid)....i do not know of any other funding available.

I would suggest you contact your local Office of Aging and ask what might be available in your State.

Good luck!
