Subject: Sleeping
Question Hi,
I think my mom is in the late stages of Alzheimer, but about a week ago she began sleeping in bed an additional 3-5 hours daily. The care givers think this is normal, but I have some reservations. She continues to nap during the day, but seems a lot brighter in the evenings. She continues to go to bed by 9.30 PM at night.
Answer Hi Colleen, I am not sure what your reservations are, but this is normal. Unless you think that the caregivers are medicating her to sleep. You would have to know what meds she is on. If she is in a home you have the right to ask for a list, since you are paying for them!
One thing I will say tho, is thank your lucky stars that she is a sleeper! I can't tell you the number of caregivers who would trade places with you in a NY minute. Not much consolation for you, I know, but believe me having your mom up 24 hours a day is extremely taxing.
If you find out she is on meds and don't know what they are for, feel free to write again. Paula
