Answer
Yehia, the best advice for keeping your brain in tip top shape is to do all things your grandmother probably told you. Your overall physical and emotional health does impact your cognitive function.

Eat well. Get enough rest. Exercise. Don't abuse drugs or alcohol. Avoid stress. Keep your blood pressure and cholesterol low. Keep your weight at a healthy level. Don't smoke. If you have chronic health problems, follow your doctor's instructions - it is amazing how many people do not take care of themselves, or manage their own known health problems. Keep yourself involved in activities and hobbies outside of work -make a good balance between your work life and your social and family lives.

If you are taking good care of yourself, you have the best possible odds for having a sharp mind. If you genuinely believe your memory and concentration are not as good as they were, that should be a red flag to you that you are not taking optimal care of your health. You should talk to your doctor, and rule out all physical causes, and think about what changes you can make to help yourself.

Are there internal or external distractions you can eliminate by changing your environment (i.e. even turning off the phone for set time periods). Are you setting realistic goals and priorities for yourself. Are you organized? Do you have a set schedule? Are you taking enough breaks? Do  you need to ask for some help ? Are you varying what you are working on so you avoid boredom?  Do you have a positive attitude? Do you have the right tools, and setting to do your best, whether that be a good desk light, a comfortable desk and chair, etc.

Hope this helps.

Expertise

Several years direct experience as caregiver for family member who died of end stage AD. Did lots of research and dealt with a lot of health care professionals and caregivers over the 7 years from diagnosis to the end. Used various care options from community based resources to increasing levels of institutional. Mother of three, two born during our loved one's decline, so I know what it is to be the ham in the sandwich, taking care of the older generation and the younger at the same time and trying to balance everyone`s needs. Ask me, I`ve probably been there, done that. We made lost of mistakes and learned everything the hard way - but you don`t have to! If I can`t answer your question, I`ll steer you to a place or person who can.

Experience

Currently a program manager for a large utility company. My Alzheimers experience comes from having the illness in our family. Out of necessity, we did a lot of research in order to understand the disease, plan for what might come next, and make the right decisions to help and support our loved one. Please note, I am a Canadian living in Toronto, and therefore am not the best person to ask about US regulations and insurance rules!
