Question
My dad has dementia and he is used to being around my mom. He feels lost with out her. Can my dad go without my mom for 2 weeks without going in depression

Answer
Hi Gail,

Routine and consistency is the key with a Dementia inflicted individual.  When your father has a routine, it is security for him.  Your mom; therefore, is a comfort, a consistency and without her will most likely cause a change in his mood and behavior.   However, it is very important that your mother take time away and these changes will only be temporary

Try to keep the same daily routine that your mother has established with your father while she is away and you may be able to minimize his sadness.
