Alzheimer`s Disease/leg pain in Alzheimers

Question
My mother has Stage 6 Alzheimers.
She is experiencing leg pain and leg spasms.  They are running several tests.  She was walking with assistance a few weeks ago and now is in so much pain she can barely walk.  They think she might be having blood clots shooting down her legs.  Why would this happen so suddenly?  Is this a symptom of her Alzheimers?

Hello Karen,

Thank you for writing.  Generally, no, "shooting pain" is not a symptom of Alzheimer's.   It is termed, "Neuropathy" and most likely has some other origin.   Most geriatric individuals that have Neuropathy have Dibetes.   

I would rely on the advice of the physician if they are suggesting blood clots.  

Unfortnately, Neuropathy is not my area of expertise, but i am sure the medical professionals will find it's origin.

In the meantime...may folks have been helped by pain medications, warm compresses, massages and overall soothing environmental conditions.
