Question
HI, MY MOTHER 72 HAS BEEN GETTING HEADACHES, A FAR AWAY LOOK IN HER EYES AND HER BEHAVIOR HAS BEEN TERRIBLE.  FROM SCREAMING OBCENITIES TO HER DAUGHTER TO THROWING THINGS AT LOVED ONES.  WE ARE NOW AFRAID FOR HER SAFETY AS SHE IS LEAVING STOVES ON.  CAN THIS BE JUST DEMENTIA OR IS IT SOME OTHER THING LIKE ALSHEIMERS (SORRY ABOUT SPELLING) TO PARKINSONS?

Answer
Hello Barbara,

Thank you for writing.  It sounds like your mother is having some health issues.

I would strongly recommend an appointment with a neurologist and he/she perhaps will order an MRI to determine what is causing your mother's health changes.
Once the neurologist runs testing, he/she will likely be able to determine if your mother has some form of Dementia.

Dementia is an "Umbrella" term, much like cancer, that encompasses many types; including, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, Vascular, etc.

There are medications available that may assist or reverse what is ailing your mother.  Please make that appointment today!

Best Regards,
