Alzheimer`s Disease/Dimentia

Question
My mother started to exhibit signs of dimentia slightly before her 84th birthday.  One yea later, she fell in her home and suffered a concusion.  It has been eight months now and she is declining steadily.  Therapy in the rehab helped at first, and I now have her enrolled in Senior Care(nationwide program).  Is there anything further I can do?  Her family MD wants to discuss everything but this problem.

Answer
Lorraine,  you don't mention whether or not your mom is on any of the medications that are currently available for the treatment of AD.  Also there are a number of clinical trials that are ongoing around the US which she might be able to participate in.  Call your local Alzheimer's Association and see what is available.

The other thing to do is find a new doctor!  Find a geriatric specialist or a neurologist who specializes in dementia, they can also help you do the best for your mom.  I hope this helps.  Write again anytime.  Paula
