Alzheimer`s Disease/last stage alzheimers

Question
Is it common for alsheimers patients to have spells of stopping breathing in the late stages.

Answer
Dear Hallie, yes it is something that happens to some people.  The brain is essentially eroding and being destroyed.  The brain controls all bodily functions, so as each part is consumed by the plaques and tangles that are the markers of Alzheimer's, it eventually destroys the area that controls breathing.

I hope this helps you understand.  Please let me know if you have any other questions.  Peace, Paula
