my mam is 52 and has genetic Alzheimer she is in the final stage she hasn't walked in months doesn't talk just sit's in her chair and sleeps she keeps getting swollen feet and her breathing is a bit shallow a doctors ain't much help and i just want to no what to expect next i would be very gratefully for any help you will have for me

Hello Debbie,
Thank you for writing me.   It sounds like this is a difficult time for you and it is very understandable since your mother is so Young!

As you know, Alzheimer's is a progressive disease, and from what you have told me, it does sound like she is in the last stages.  Most individuals in this stage sleep a lot and gradually "wilt away".   

I would strongly suggest you call a local Hospice organization to help with your mother during these final months.  As long as your mother has Medicare, SSI or Medical Assistance, Hospice costs will be covered.   I believe they will be a tremendous help for you and your mom.

In the meantime, i would encourage you to keep talking, reading to your mother or just playing soothing music on the radio.
