Question
Hello, My nephew just got a 78 Cherokee w/ 360 turbo 400.
I'm very familar with GM and remember some friends AMC's this 360 looks very much like Buicks 350,400,455's its even painted Buick red. has distributor in front also. what else is there that tells me this is AMC?

Answer
I do not know why it would be painted red, unless someone painted it.
Look on the side of the block, behind the motor mounts. There you should find the CID cast on the block; in your case, 360.
There usually is a tag screwed on the front of the valve cover giving the build date, CID, etc in code.
