American Motors - electronic ignition

Expert: Kevin Pilotte - 11/2/2009

Question
I have a 64 American convertable I am restoring. I took an electronic ignition distributor and control module out of an  amc with an early electronic system (not sure of the year and model anymore). There are three wires that were cut when the module was removed from the original car. Two are green, and one white.
There is a green and a white wire from the coil that were also cut. I assume that a green and a white are hooked to the coil and one green wires is hooked to the ignition switch and is hot when the key is turned on. Should there be any type of resistor between the power supply and the module that you are aware of? Am I right about the green wire becoming hot?

Thank you
Gord

Answer
Gord,
Need to know what year distributor you have. It is either a Prestolite or Motorcraft.
Pull the distributor cap and see if you can tell which one it is.
Also, tell me more about the control module. Is it cast aluminum and silver in color? Or is it gold color?
