Question
I have been rebuilding a 79 cj5 and it hasn't been running for over a year. The previous owner said it did run.what should I do before I attempt to start it for the first time?(I sprayed a small ammount of oil in the cylinders so it wouldn't be dry.

Answer
1) Change oil & filter.
2) Remove spark plugs and spray a teaspoon of oil into each cylinder
3) Replace the fuel filter and make sure the gas tank has fresh fuel in it as well as the carburetor. NOT year old stuff.
4) With the plugs still out, crank the engine over to get the oil circulating and fuel to the carburetor.
5) Make sure the radiator is full
6) Reinstall the plugs
7) Start engine and let it idle for a while.
