Question
QUESTION: Purchased new base 2 dr coupe had either no start or stall problems from the get-go dealer never could find cause & I was forced to trade it in with only 8000 miles on it. Only one willing to take in trade was English Ford dealer. Fo forty plus years this has haunted me  I became "Laughing Stock "at work and had more miles on Tow Truck.  Thanks

ANSWER: Some questions:
1) What year coupe?
2) What engine?
3) What time of year was it? Cold? Hot?
4) What did the dealer try to correct the condition?
5) Did the engine crank over but not start? or not crank over at all?

4)Changed plugs-wiring harness,dealer had vehicle 12 or more times of various duration-said it was me nothing wrong with vechile. My response "Why won!t it start"

Answer
Here are a few things that could have caused the condition:

1) Misadjusted or defective neutral safety switch
2) Poor connections at the battery or solenoid
3) Excessive moisture in distributor cap
4) Defective ignition coil
5) Choke malfunction

I have articles in "American Motoring", the official publication of the American Motors Owners Association. They are the largest AMC club in the world.
