Question
Hi Kevin,i have a 68 rebel with a sad 290, i am considering a replacement purchase of rebuilt 360 long motor, will the 290 timing case, dist, ect fit? will the original auto hold up[it has recently been rebuilt] what about a TH400 what would i have to modify?
regards Darryl

Answer
Yes, the 360 should be a bolt in. All the accessories you mentioned will bolt up, too. If your timing cover is the original one, you might consider getting a new replacement as it houses the oil pump. They make reproduction covers now. As for the transmission, it depends on how modified your 360 will be and how hard you plan on driving it. The Borg Warner is basically a good transmission, but if you plan on hooking it up to a high horse power engine you should be careful.
A TH400 won't bolt up to your 360. The only TH400 that will bolt up is from a Jeep 4X4.
