Question
I have a 71 sst with 304 in it. I am considering buying a 904 to replace my borg warner, but I was told I need some sort of adapter piece because the bolt pattern is different. Can you please tell me what I need so I can get on the road, and even better if you could point me in a direction as to where to find it.

Thanks

Answer
The 904 tranny has to come from an AMC. Also, the crankshaft from your 71 will not work with a 904. The adapter you mentioned will be  necessary to get your crankshaft to work with a 904 transmission. It was an AMC part number 321 6130. Check some AMC parts vendors online.
Or, you can replace your crankshaft with one from a 72 or later AMC/Jeep.
Good luck.
