Question
how do i tell the difference between the top and the #2 compressyion rings they got mixed up they .030 mahle rings for a amc 304 1979 both rings have a dot on them but one has a dot that is closer to the end gap then the other so whitch one is the top ring

Answer
The top two grooves are the same size. Usually, the #2 ring has a bevel which faces downward (factory rings). The dots go up. If there is no bevel (aftermarket rings), then just install them both with the dot facing up. Be sure to stagger the end gaps.
