Question
we have a 1977 amc gemlin. IT HAS A NEW 232 6CYL ENGINE, NEW STARTER,CABLES, SOLENOID, THE WIRES TO THE AUTO TRANY ARE HOOKED UP FOR THE PARK AND NEUTRAL SWITCH. BUT WHEN WE TURN THE KEY THE STARTER DOES NOT SPIN. THE BATTERY IS GOOD AND FULLY CHARGEED. IF YOU HAVE ANY THOUGHTS ABOUT THIS IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU MARTIN

Answer
Try the following:
1) Turn the key to the "ON" position
2) Check for 12 Volts at the + side of the ignition coil
3) Go to the solenoid. Use a jumper wire to jump between the positive cable running from the battery to the solenoid and the small terminal next to it on the solenoid (S terminal). The engine should turn over and start.
When you turn the key to the START posistion, power is supplied to this small terminal on the solenoid.
Other things to check are any fusible links, adjustment of the ignition switch on the steering column, and adjustment of the neutral safety switch.
Good luck.
