Question
ok they say it does not run now but it did before. i would like to know what i show do first to get it on the street again. it has a straight 6 in it. could you tell me what i would have to do to get it running again. they say it turns over but will not start. also could you show me a web page where they would have some more info on this car. im in iraq right now and have some money saved up for the things i need to get this car up and going again.

Answer
You need 3 things to get an engine running.
1) Compression. Pull a spark plug and cover the hole with your finger. Crank the engine over. You finger should pop off the hole.
2) Spark. Remove a spark plug wire from a plug. Hold the end 1/2" away from the engine block. Crank the engine and you should have a bright spark jumping to the block.
3) Fuel. After the engine has cranked, turn the key off.
Remove the air cleaner and look down the carburetor with a flashlight. Mash down on the gas pedal and look for a stream of fuel shooting into the venturi of the carburetor.
If all of these are happening at the right time, it will start.
Google "American Motors" and you should find some sights with info on the American.
Let me know when you get back and I'll give you more help.
