American Motors/squeak/thunk when put into Drive

Question
Hi, I own a 95, 2.2L Cavalier with a 3speed automatic transmission. When I put the car into drive from park it seems to make a metalic sqeak or thunk noise. Doesn't happen when put into reverse, but seems to make it more when put from reverse to drive. Has been doing this since I purchased the car in September.

I've had the motor mounts checked at GM, and they said they seemed ok (although I also asked them to check for a bad head gasket, which they also ok'ed and was not in fact ok)

Any ideas as to what the problem may be?

Answer
Sam,
Sorry to hear about the problem you're having with your Chevy. Unfortunately, my expertise is with automobiles manufactured by American Motors Corporation. I do not know anything about GM vehicles. I might suggest submitting your question to the Chevrolet expert. Sorry I couldn't of help.
