Amiga Problems/Amiga HDD boot up

Question
Hi, i've just got my old A600 out from the loft to play some old games with my son, I purchased a 3.1gb hdd from ebay that already has workbench 3.1 installed. Connected the drive internally turned on the power expecting it to boot into workbench but it does nothing. The hdd spins up & is connected o.k. Am i being stupid expecting it to boot straight from the hdd or do I have to boot up using floppys first? Any help would be good. My A600 is rev 1.5.

Answer
Hi Matt,

I'm not sure why your hard disk drive isn't autobooting if it had Workbench installed on it, but if the hard disk drive is accessible once you've booted up, I would try reinstalling Workbench 3.1 on it (using the "Install 3.1" diskette). The process of doing this should set your hard drive to autoboot when you power your A600 on.

If you don't have an AmigaOS 3.1 disk set, you should be able to get one from either eBay.com, or either Software Hut (www.softhut.com) or AmigaKit (www.amigakit.com).

I hope this helps!
