Amiga Problems/Amiga 1200 transfer files problem

Question
I bought an Amiga 1200 off Ebay and I have a problem passing over .run files (like lha.run) to the ram then to the c drive. On Workbench 3.9 the file will not run, giving me a message of a returncode 10 error. If I use Relokick 1.3 & then Workbench 1.3 & try passing it over there, after downloading the file it extracts but comes up with a data corrupted error. I have used Transwarp to pass over ADF files with no problems at all. Can you please help me if you know why .run files refuse to work on my A1200. I can only use the "type ser:" command on cli, maybe I need a terminal program?

Answer
Hi Orionz25,

Unfortunately, I'm not at all familiar with .run files (from your wording, I'm assuming they're some form of self-executing file for transferring/running Amiga emulation software?) I don't know why there would be corruption of files, but unfortunately whenever you deal with emulation of any kind (and on any platform), you're forging into areas far more prone to problems than standard systems--it's just the nature of the beast.

I do know that it's possible to transfer files using a null modem cable, terminal software and a protocol such as X-Modem, Z-Modem, or Kermit (brings back memories of the early days of BBS's/modems). Give it a try using the most basic settings on both systems to help ensure no corruption with the files.

I hope this helps,

Greg

I certainly don't know everything about the Amiga, but having been a user of several different models for about fifteen years, I'm willing to share what I know.
