Amiga Problems/SupraDrive 500XP External SCSI question

Question
Greetings. I have an Amiga 500+ with 20mb External SupraDrive 500xp . It
works great but I've always wondered about the external SCSI port on the
back. Can I add other SCSI devices? I Would love to add a SCSI CD-ROM, I
have one that I've used on my old Apple Power PCs. When I tried connecting
it, the Amiga hung, and would not boot. I did terminate the CD-ROM and the
SCSI ID was set to a higher number than the HD which is set to 0. Can anyone
help me configure this or suggest a way to have my HD and an external CD-
ROM connected? I really need to be able to transfer files from CDR to the HD.

Answer
Hi Mark,

It sounds like you've been doing the right thing, and I wish I had a clear-cut solution for you, but I don't. :( The only idea that pops into my mind is if (somehow?) something is being terminated between the physical "ends" of the SCSI chain, causing it to hang.

Did you try leaving the CD-ROM drive unterminated and see if it works? It's worth a try. I do remember the terminating issue being a bit of a headache back when I was using my Amiga. :(

You can also try asking on UseNet's comp.sys.amiga.misc and comp.sys.amiga.hardware newsgroups (listed below respectively):

http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.amiga.misc?lnk=gschg

http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.amiga.hardware?lnk=gschg

I'm sorry I don't have more of a solution for you, but I trust you can get an answer perhaps through the newsgroups.

I certainly don't know everything about the Amiga, but having been a user of several different models for about fifteen years, I'm willing to share what I know.
