Amiga Problems/amiga 500 boot up problem
Expert: Gregory Donner - 7/3/2008
Questionhi its me again. I do have the workbench disk. No matter what drive its in, the workbench screen still pops up. Even with software that does not require the workbench, it pops up for it. I dont know if its the drive or if its something inside the computer.
AnswerHi Jonathon,
It sounds like your Workbench disk is corrupt, seeing as Workbench refuses to load from it, which then puts you right back at the same screen. I would suggest getting another set of Workbench 1.2 or 1.3 disks (from either eBay.com or Software Hut at softhut.com). However, keep in mind that even seemingly new disks may have errors on them simply because of their age. Amiga hardware is very old, and it is can be affected by time even if it hasn't been used.
The other problem could be that both of your floppy drives are bad, and need replacing. If you know someone that has a working Amiga system, you could test your Workbench disks and/or floppy drive with their equipment to verify it.
I hope this helps,
Greg
