Amiga Problems/booting up a amiga drive?

Question
hi. i recently got an external floppy drive for my amiga 500. the drive is a amiga 1010 drive and it appears to work fine. I hooked it up into the disk port in the back of the pc and turned it on but nothing happens. the light on the drive doesn't appear to turn on when a disk is in it. i keep getting the workbench/hand screen. My stepdad says that he thinks i need a command to boot up software from an external drive. is this true or am i missing out on something?

Answer
Hi Jonathon,

If you're seeing a Workbench/hand screen, it sounds like you do not have a Workbench disk in order to boot up your Amiga 500 (your system sounds like it is either version 1.2 or 1.3). Did you receive an original or copy of a Workbench disk with your Amiga 500? If not, you will need one in order to boot up.

I would suggest looking for a copy on eBay.com, or possibly also Software Hut (www.softhut.com) if you're living in the U.S.

I hope this helps!
