Amiga Problems/amiga a600 loading problem
Expert: Gregory Donner - 6/7/2011
QuestionQUESTION: i recently bought an a600 of ebay. everything is set up right. so when i load the games, some games load and let me play but when ever they reload the screen goes white and goes back to the start page. some games start to load then the white screen appears and the computer goes back to the start page. i have tried this with nearly all my games and it happens on all of them at some stage in the loading process.is there a solution or will it require hardware. thanks
ANSWER: Hi Steven,
When you say some of your games "reload", go to a white screen, and return to the start page, do you mean the screen below or the second link below it?

The Amiga 600 was shipped with Kickstart 2.04, which (if your system is rebooting, and you don't have a hard drive connected), should be displaying the following screen:

Not being able to see your system, I can only assume that either you have a Kickstart switcher installed in your A600 allowing it to boot Kickstart 1.3 or Kickstart 2.04, or your games themselves are not compatible with Kickstart 2.04.
Here's an example of the Kickstart switcher in action:

I hope this helps!

QUESTION: thanks for your quick reply. it the second screen that appears. it doesn't have kick start built in. some game let me play but when it has to load it then crashes and a white screen appears and it goes to the start screen with the disc showing. as shown in the second link u sent. thanks ste. its seems to be crashing.
ANSWER: Hi Steven,
If Workbench runs fine, and you're only experiencing the crashes when you try to play some games, then it is obvious that the games you're trying to play are incompatible with Kickstart 2.04.
I hope this helps!

QUESTION: But I done the test were u press the two A keys and the Crtl to see if kick start screen comes on and nothing happens. And it happens on every game I try. Some let me go further than others. Am I loading the games right. Or do I have to insert the work bench game first. I am very new to this so all the help is needed
AnswerHi Steven,
Workbench is not a game--it contains the operating system files needed to boot up your Amiga if you don't have a hard drive connected.
If, after Workbench is loaded, you put the game disk in your drive, and no disk icon appears, or no game icon is visible in the window after you double-click it, then the game is probably designed to load from a reboot. Most older Amiga games were.
If the game does not load or run properly from a reboot, then it is not compatible with the version of Kickstart in your Amiga 600.
