Amiga Problems/A1200 Harddrive boot problem

Question
Hi
I have recently found my old A1200 and 3.5" 540MB Hard Drive.
When I turn it on the Harddrive spins up and trys to boot then sounds like its
skipping inside. The screen remains blank while the harddirve keeps spinnig
and eventually it gets to the purple disk instert screen. I know that there are
at least 3 partitions on the drive and when I load WB from floppy I dont see
any of them.

The HardDrive is found and recognised when I run HDTools but again I cant
see any of my partions or disk DH0: etc..

Any Ideas how I can get this to work?

cheers

James

Answer
Hi James,

It sounds like the boot partition is corrupt in some way. You can try using Dave Haynie's "DiskSalv" utility to check the drive once you've booted up from diskette. Here's the URL from Aminet:

http://aminet.net/disk/salv/DiskSalv11_32.lha

Depending on the type/number of errors or (possibly) bad blocks on the drive, the old data/partitions on it may not be salvageable, and you may need to reformat it; but it's worth a try with this utility first.

I hope this helps!
