Question
Greetings,
I have ressurected my old A1200 and added a toshiba 2.5 hard-drive. When I attempt to install wb 3.0 the hd setup /partition procedure goes ok, the 2 partitons are recognised on screen, but when I click install, I receive a system requester "insert volume ENV". susequent to this a dialogue box opens with "GETENV string too long."
I dont have a genuine copy of install 3.0, but am using a 3rd party disc labelled amd release 2&3 hd install and tools.
thanks in anticipation

Answer
Hi Dan,

My first suspicion would be the third-party Install 3.0 disk not setting up ENV: properly (which, during installation is critical). Also, what capacity is the Toshiba 2.5 hard-drive you installed? It should be less than 4GB since you don't have AmigaOS 3.9 (required for drives larger than 4GB).

I would suggest trying to get a copy of an official AmigaOS 3.0 disk set, and/or (if you can), upgrading to at least AmigaOS 3.1 or 3.9 (though 3.9 can be a little tricky to upgrade too).

Two places you should be able to find OS diskettes are Software Hut (www.softhut.com) and AmigaKit (www.amigakit.com). You could also try looking for genuine diskettes from well-rated sellers on eBay.com as well.

I hope this helps!

I certainly don't know everything about the Amiga, but having been a user of several different models for about fifteen years, I'm willing to share what I know.
