Amiga Problems/AMIGA 1200 Freezes

Question
I've had an AMIGA 1200 in storage for over 10 years. Switched in on a few days ago and the clock was only 12 minutes slow! It's a standard COMMODORE A1200, bought in the early 1990s, fitted with a POWER COMPUTING VIPER 68030/28 Accelerator, packing an impresive 8MB RAM!
Anyway, tried to play FRONTIER, and the machine freezes within the first five minutes of playing. Any suggestions? A couple of other games worked fine - the HDD seems to be absolutely OK.

Answer
Hi Mal,

I'm not sure what to tell you, other than if the system doesn't lock up in the same amount of time when just running the OS, it's obviously got to be something related to the game itself, or perhaps the game in relation to the OS. Do you remember it freezing when you played it before? It's possible that the game doesn't like your accelerator--I've heard of that being a problem, and if there's a way to temporarily disable the acceleration (check the accelerator manual) it might help.

I would suspect the game before the OS, especially if the OS runs fine by itself without any problems as long as you don't play the game...I say that, as all the hardware would have to be working to keep the OS running reliably.

Failing this, you can also post your question on:

There may be some Amiga users who are familiar with your game and accelerator combo, and can give some hints for a workaround.

I hope this helps!

I certainly don't know everything about the Amiga, but having been a user of several different models for about fifteen years, I'm willing to share what I know.
