Amiga Problems/Fried mouse port

Question
Greg,

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

I have a A2000 which I accidently plugged a dongle into the mouse port.
(oops!)
The computer runs fine, however, when I plugged the mouse back into the
correct port, the mouse does not respond.

My question is can I try to solder a jump wire over the burnt trace or
cannibalize another motherboard for the mouse port?

Thanks again,

-Alan

Answer
Hi Alan,

Unfortunately, I don't have a background in electronics, so I can't say what would or wouldn't work. :( However, if you have no problem with risking your current A2000 motherboard, I'd say give it a try! You can always buy a used A2000 for a reasonable price on eBay, or possibly an A2000 motherboard itself. I do know getting to the bare A2000 motherboard takes some doing, but it's pretty straightforward.

Even buying another used A2000 is still likely to be cheaper and faster than sending your A2000 to Software Hut (www.softhut.com) to have it repaired.

I hope this helps!

Greg

I certainly don't know everything about the Amiga, but having been a user of several different models for about fifteen years, I'm willing to share what I know.
