Amiga Problems/Installed Workbench 3 but fails to boot.

Question
Hi,

I've just fitted a 1.3GB HDD into my A1200 with 3.1 ROMS.

I booted off the Workbench 3 install disk, partitioned the drive and installed Workbench 3.

It then told me to reboot after it had finished but it just boots to the AmigaDOS prompt.

I've tried another hard drive but it's the same.

The thing is the Workbench 3 floppy disk doesn't boot either. it does the same by just booting to the AmigaDOS prompt but it doesn't give an error when i install it.

Do i need to do anything after installation to get my a1200 to boot from HDD or do i need a new Workbench disk?

Cheers

Answer
Hi Kieran,

It should be booting from at least the Workbench disk, and I don't know why it's not booting from the hard drive--especially if you ensured that the hard drive was set as bootable via the HDToolbox utility (which should be on the Install 3.1 disk). Can you access the hard drive by typing in "HD0:" when you're in the AmigaDOS prompt?

I would start by getting a new copy of Workbench 3.1, and seeing what happens when you boot from it. You should be able to get a copy from either www.ebay.com (search for "Amiga Workbench disk") or www.softhut.com.

I hope this helps!
