Amiga Problems/NO POWER

Question
QUESTION: i have setup my amiga and i get no power supplied to my amiga. i dont know if something is wrong with the power box or my amiga. can anybody help?

ANSWER: Hi James,

I assume you have an Amiga 500 with an external power supply? While it's been a long time since I used an Amiga 500, I would suspect the power supply before the Amiga. If there is no power LED on the power supply, you could check it with a voltmeter (though not being an electrician myself, I can't give you directions on how to do it). However, if you know of someone who has some electrical know-how, I would suggest having them look at it. If not, you could look for a good used one on eBay.com or a new one from Software Hut (www.softhut.com) or AmigaKit (www.amigakit.com).

I hope this helps!

QUESTION: hi, again. i have an amiga 1200. does this change anything. also, there is no power led light on the power supply.

Answer
Hi James,

Unfortunately, the basic problem you're looking at certainly doesn't change--not having any electrical background, I can't give you instructions on determining whether it's the Amiga 1200 or the power supply that's at fault. However, if you know of anyone with even some electrical background, they should be able to check both with a voltmeter, and tell you where the problem is. If the power supply is bad, you should be able to get a new one from either Software Hut (www.softhut.com), AmigaKit (www.amigakit.com) or possibly from eBay. If the power supply is good, and the Amiga 1200 is at fault, I'm not sure what to tell you, as I'm not aware of any easy way to correct a power problem on the motherboard. It may just be cheaper in that case to buy another used Amiga 1200...but again, having someone with electrical background should make this choice clear.

I hope this helps!

I certainly don't know everything about the Amiga, but having been a user of several different models for about fifteen years, I'm willing to share what I know.
