Question
Hi Mr. Donner,

First of all i would like to thank for your quick response.

a)I have dowloaded the package u mentioned but i couldn't figure out how to install. Do i need floppy drive for intallation. In which volume the s/w needs to be installed. I am confused because there are no .exe files in the downloaded package.Could you plz give me few steps for installation.

b)While working with the system, i came to know that the volume JONA PHOTO was invalid. I couldn't delete as well as save any files in this section. The volume is also completely full [ Other volumes (drives) were OK ].If the problem still exists after running the downloaded file, should i format the volume ? If yes, how to format.Currently i am saving my work in the WORK volume(drive).

c) The workbench ver 40.62 , and u mentioned to about ver 3.0. Which one is the latest one.Can i update this version to some standard version?

By the way, thanks for the links and u're answer.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Mr. Donner,

I am a newbie in Amiga OS. I am currently working on Amiga Ver 1200HD. I always get the following errors on startup.

a) Whenever i start the Amiga OS, i get an error msg : "Checksum error on disk block 167332".

b) I cannot save files. I create channel banners and save it. Next time i start the system, and the file is gone.

c) For more updates, can u suggest me some of the latest downloads for the s/w?

Plz help me out. I am really stuck with piles of work on Amiga.

Thankyou for your time and hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Abishek,

The checksum errors can be corrected by running a program called "DiskSalv", downloadable here:

http://ftp.uni-paderborn.de/pub/aminet/disk/salv/DiskSalv11_32.lha

Also, Aminet has all the software you may need or want--just make sure that any program you download or use is for Workbench 3.0 or higher. The website is at:

http://ftp.uni-bremen.de/aminet/

I'm at a loss as to why you can't save any files, although it could be related to the checksum error. Be sure you're saving your work to the hard drive (or a floppy disk) and not the RAM: drive; I would think this would be the only reason it wouldn't save the file.

Also, a couple of good websites for Amiga products are:

http://www.centsible.com

http://www.softhut.com

I hope this helps!

Answer
Hi Abishek,

I need to know if you are trying to download files from the PC to the Amiga, because if you are, it's not possible to do unless you're using the old 720k PC-formatted floppies with your Amiga. You also need to use the Lharc uncompression utility to uncompress the files you download.

The Amiga's executable files do not end in ".exe"; that is a PC-only system.

To format, click the drive icon you want to format, go to the "Icons" menu, and select "Format..."

Version 40.62 is the same as 3.0 (actually Workbench 3.1 is what you have); it's just a major release number vs. the Workbench revision number, but they mean the same thing.

A lot of what you're asking is covered in the Amiga user manual that comes (or should have come) with your system, and you need to take the time to read it thoroughly first. There's an awful lot of basic information you need to know, and trying to resolve it via e-mail isn't really a practical idea.
