Thank you for your reply. My install disk and it's contents are availavle once I boot up from the workbench 3.0 disk. It's just that I cannot boot from the install disk. Is this a problem with the disk itself? Thanks.

-----Question-----
Hi,
I had so many bad blocks on my amiga 4000 hard drive that I had to reformat it. I did this from workbench and chose DH0 as the drive to format. I was planning on booting from my install disc to reinstall my workbench operating system. Unfortunately my computer will not boot from the install disc. All I get is amiga DOS and a command line. I can boot from the workbench floppy but have no way of reinstalling it back onto the hard drive. The procedure in the manual says to boot from the install disk and then follow the prompts, but as stated I cannot boot from my install disc.
What do I have to do to get the operating system back onto my hard drive. I need to reinstall my video toaster and cannot do this until I can get over this first step. Help!

Hi Bob,
I assuming you're only planning on installing OS 3.1 (and not 3.9 which can be more complicated)? If so, and if you're sure your 3.1 Install diskette is bad, it should be a simple matter of getting a new one and booting from it.
The only two sources of Amiga diskettes I'm aware of are: Software Hut (www.softhut.com), and eBay (www.ebay.com). I used to mail replacement diskettes myself, but I no longer have an Amiga or diskettes of my own.
I hope this helps! If you need further help, don't hesitate to let me know.
Regards,
Greg

Hi Bob,
Yes, it's definitely a problem with the disk itself; I would suspect the boot sector is somehow corrupt. Getting a new Install disk (or set of disks) is what I would recommend.
The install disk has the necessary install scripts that handle validation checks, and preparation for the actual installation, as well most (if not all) of the key libraries you need for a full installation.
I hope this helps,
Greg
AnswerHi Bob,
The only two places I'm aware of are: Software Hut (www.softhut.com), and eBay (www.ebay.com). Due to the Amiga's age (some Amigas are now 20 years old), it's not unusual for diskettes to wear out or develop errors even if they've never been used--so I would advise making copies of any working disk(s) you can get hold of.

Greg
