Amiga Problems/amiga 500 freezes

Question
I have an Amiga 500 that i had not used for the last eight years since it froze so much.  I hooked it back up and same thing still locks after running for a couple of minutes.  Eight years ago I purchased an ICD adspeed chip to replace my 68000, I believe this could be causing my problems although I lost my original 68000 chip.  After it freezes I need to leave it powered off for a few minutes until I try to power it up otherwise all I see is a white to gray screen.  Would it be worth it to purchase another 68000 to test?  Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Answer
Hi Dave,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you; I meant to write a reply this morning, but was waylayed.

It would be good to start with finding a new 68000 chip--you could at least determine if this is indeed the cause of the lockups or not. You can buy new 68000 chips from stores such as Software Hut (www.softhut.com), or you might also be able to buy one from Centsible Software (www.centsible.com). The 68000 chip shouldn't be too expensive, since it is quite a common chip used in the Amiga.

I hope this helps; let me know if you have any other questions.

Regards,

Greg

I certainly don't know everything about the Amiga, but having been a user of several different models for about fifteen years, I'm willing to share what I know.
