Amiga Problems/disk's not loading

Question
hi Greg, hope you can help me. just purchased an amiga 600 from ebay, the problem i am getting is that none of the disks want to load. the amiga powers up fine and the purple screen with the insert disk picture is displayed, when i insert a disk the screen turns gray and the drive starts to run. orange light comes on. it try's to read the disk for about 10 secs then the screen go's back to the purple start screen. there is a load squeaking noise coming from the drive as it spins. i have tried many of the disks that i own but all with the same result. do you think i need to replace the disk drive, or do you think it could be something else? please help
many thanks
terry

Answer
Hi Terry,

From what you've described, it sounds like the drive itself is bad and needs to be replaced (not uncommon for such old equipment). You could try eBay again for a replacement drive, or also Software Hut (www.softhut.com) or AmigaKit (www.amigakit.com). Be sure that you buy a drive designed for the A600 if it's internal; but you can also get by with using an external floppy drive (as external, since the Amiga will check for it on boot up) as well.

I hope this helps!

Greg
