it's suejoe, i hope you can help me to understand some words in "mary" song. what are the connection between dolphin and the baby? what is the function of "acid rain"? is it about hopeless?

Hi Suejoe!

I've not been able to find much from Tori on this song. I've always heard it as pretty straight forward about the Magdalene that she has talked about for years. Knowing that, it may put the song a little more into focus.

In reading the lyrics and listening to the song again, I dont' hear a connection with the baby and dolphin - just two seperate questions about the cries of creatures big and small on our planet.

Acid Rain - I hear this as a metaphor to describe how Christians teach their children how Mary Magdalene was a prostitute and all things about her that Tori does not believe to be true. Make sense?

This is just one girls opinion of course! I hope this brings you closer to your own understanding of the song.
