AboutMelissa Mayntz Expertise I can answer any questions about Cedar Point (Sandusky, Ohio) ride policies (height requirements, line length, closing due to weather, etc.), park layout, dining options, and the wide variety of shows and attractions that Cedar Point offers. I can also answer questions about how to become an employee there, including what types of jobs are available, age requirements, the application process, employee housing, pay rates, benefits, and so forth. If I cannot answer questions in these areas, I can likely point you to good sources for further information.
Experience I have visited Cedar Point since the early 1980s, and worked there for six seasons (1996, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2003, 2008). I have worked a number of different rides, including both smaller rides and major roller coasters, and I have experienced the different sides of employee life (housing, activities, etc.). During the 2003 season, I was the team leader for a ride location, responsible for crew scheduling, crew training, and in general operating the ride. I continue to be active in the amusement park community, and maintain connections to Cedar Point that allow me to always have updated information available.
Question im going to cedarpoint for the 1st time in late august either the 25th 26th or 27th can u please estimate wait time on the major rollercoasters. thank you
Answer Hi Michael,
Line lengths can be difficult to estimate, but generally in late August the park is very busy as families get in one last getaway before the end of summer. You can anticipate wait times similar to the following for each coaster:
Top Thrill Dragster: 1.5-2.5 hours
Maverick: 2-3 hours or longer depending on mechanical delays since it is a new ride
Millennium Force: 1.5-2.5 hours
Corkscrew: 30-60 minutes
Wildcat: 1-2 hours
Iron Dragon: 45-90 minutes
Mean Streak: 1-2 hours
Gemini: 45-90 minutes
Blue Streak: 30-60 minutes
Wicked Twister: 30-60 minutes
Disaster Transport: 45-90 minutes
Raptor: 1-2 hours
Mantis: 1-2 hours
Cedar Creek Mine Ride: 30-60 minutes
Magnum XL 200: 1-2 hours
Very early and very late in the day the wait times are likely to be shorter, but several things can also make them longer -- mechanical problems, bad weather, etc. Since you're going over a weekend, however, the lines could be even longer than these estimates. I'd honestly recommend skipping the Corkscrew, Cedar Creek Mine Ride, and Wildcat unless you're really interested in riding all the major coasters. Iron Dragon and Disaster Transport are also fairly tame rides, though they are unique and can be fun if you are interested in unusual coasters.
There are no front-of-line or express passes available for any rides. One trick you can use, however, is to save one long-line ride until the very end of the night. The park does not close ride lines early based on when the park closes; everyone in line will ride. This means that if you get in line five minutes before closing and there is an hour wait, you will still get to ride. This can help you save some time during the day instead of spending it all waiting in line.
I hope this helps; if you have any further questions, feel free to ask. Thanks for using AllExperts.com, and please leave a rating if you have a moment!
