Question
QUESTION: Have very old bronze urn with "nailed" on sq. metal seal. on bottom. Where is a source I could send a picture, if only to learn what language this may be, (or not to be)?

ANSWER: Only two places I can think of are:

1  Location where you bought the urn ...  they can surely tel you thr background of the urn.

2  a museum ...  either local or online.

You can also send me a copy of the picture [gif] to serena111@msn.com to determine language...if language can be determined then source and background could also follow.

QUESTION: Hello, thanks so much for the reply! The urn was always in family, I never listened, or was not told it's origin. Sent picture to you at above email, and it was returned "mailbox unavailable"-"user unknown". New question: How can I get the picture to you for that advice on how to proceed? Absolutely love this website, it's a terrific idea! I'll be passing it on...Will also review what subjects you cover, to scout for any experts I may know... There are zillions retired folks in my area, -many could really enjoy using their brains again! Sincerely, Barbara A.

Answer
My apologies ........

Reviweing my note to you I realized I left out a number in my email ...it is as follows:

serena1111@msn.com    -  1111 =  4  not 3 numbers.

Again my apologies...send the picture and I shall endeavor to help you solve this mystery.

Also tell me as much as you can about the urn ... bronze urns were used for many purposes in different cultures so it could come from Europe .. Greece, Italy, England, Wales, etc.

Expertise

Along with teaching classical Literature for over thirty-eight years, I have also taught history of the Greco-Roman cultures. History and Mythology are, in my opinion, inseparable; it is necessary to have a background in both to have a clear understanding of both ends of the spectrum, the myth and the fact.

Experience

Thirty-eight years of teaching.
